New Alaska State Publications for July 2005

The Alaska State Publications Program added forty-five new publications to the catalog of the Alaska State Library in July 2005. Of these 45, all but one were available on the Internet, at least for now.

All Alaska State Publications are cataloged by Rose Welton of the Alaska State Library. Thanks Rose!

LaCrosse Public Library's neat web site

Perusing the recent Unabashed Librarian, I found a neat item from the LaCrosse Public Library (WI). I went to the library web site to look for it. Although I never found that initial item of interest, what I did discover more than made up for it. It has:
  • an online form for readers advisory (response promised within 48 hours),
  • an online book club that emails "five minutes" from a book so you can decide whether or not you want to check it out (available to all, not just library card holders),
  • an opportunity for patrons to share their favorite books (complete with short reviews),
  • and more, all with a nice layout that gets a lot of information in while keeping the format fairly simple.

Check out this nifty site!

1911 Canadian census online

I just came across a resource that may be helpful for patrons doing genealogical research in the North: the 1911 Canadian census is now available online. Unfortunately, searches can only be done geographically, not by family name. Once you narrow it down to a location, it is necessary to browse to find specific records. Still, this resource may be helpful for some genealogists.

In addition, VILDA, Alaska's Virtual Library, has five photographs of Governor Hammond.
